Josh Ritter on NPR: Talk of the Nation

He “lopes in iambic pentameter”. I love him.

[lyrics: Girl in the War, Thin Blue Flame]

An aside on Josh:
I’m kicking myself for never noticing before.. I was aware of his inclination to mention wolves in many of his songs, and his self-comparisons to them.. and that all made good sense to me.
But ‘had somehow managed to never make the connection: his …moans/croons in pretty much all of his songs — ooooh…oooOOhhh…. — they’re howling. And it’s uncannily similar to the sound a wolf makes when it’s singing. If you don’t hear it, find some recordings of wolves singing.. can’t believe I never heard it before.
