Firefox's download record plan

slated in consumed at 8:03 pm

Silly Firefox. They want a download record,
they know they’re an awesome webbrowser and everyone loves them
no surprise that their sites are all down now, since the “download record” start time started 4 minutes ago. I’m sure they tried to be prepared….

firefox.com, spreadfirefox.com, mozilla.com, mozilla.org

All not loading.

Well, my dear and trusty Filehippo has it. Firefox 3.0 available in its entirety for speedy download.

+1 for Filehippo.

Covers view on Goodreads (when viewing lists) is happy.

Revisiting David Mack’s Kabuki. I’m enthralled again. Breathtaking art, all round.

I’m apparently on a graphic novel kick these days.

And Amazon’s had this 4-for-3 deal that’s been kicking my ass(wallet) a bit.

I’ve been eating a LOT of cherries.

I think I’m going to try sleeping on a bed tonight. How novel. (Last three nights on armchair seems to have provided for progress.)

KJ: How to Move a Tree

slated in mused, consumed at 10:41 pm

The fish, no matter what side of the stone he gets to, never reaches the ?other? side.

How to Move a Tree by William R. Stimson, from issue 65 of the Kyoto Journal (one of the best publications, ever).

But then one day we find that somehow it has reached us ? and recognize, with surprise and astonishment, the other side.

Day 9 with the Wii Balance Board / Wii Fit; Day 1 with Wii Ware

slated in consumed at 10:14 pm

I’ve had the Wii Balance Board / Wii Fit for ~9 days now.
It’s happiness.
It’s well made for what it is, and the Balance Board really delivers what it promises.
The Wii Fit definitely won’t impressive people who are already fitness enthusiasts (though they should still appreciate some of the balance games) but it really does a great job of introducing and walking through various exercises, and especially great for tracking progress and thus encouraging activity and results. I was a bit skeptical of their emphasis on “posture” and “balance” before I tried it, but it really is a very good angle, and really makes a difference in your approach, outlook, results.

While I was waiting for my dinner to digest before playing on the Balance Board, I checked out Wii Ware (in the Wii Shopping channel) and downloaded Dr. Mario Online Rx.
I remember loving this game and being so good at it way back in the day. Well, I still love the game, but I am so bad at it now! I don’t know what happened! gah.
Will be nice to try online/versus mode — when I don’t suck so much.

The Wii Fit / friendly balance board

slated in consumed at 4:05 pm

Wii Fit / balance board — pretty cool.

Now that the board and system are “synched”, I would feel quite comfortable putting the disk in and telling one of my parents, “just turn on the board, point the controller at the screen, and press A where you think you should or where it tells you to.” the software instructs all the rest.

In any case, the system is responsive, talks a lot but also seems to let you skip most dialogue/instructions if you want to. I was a bit skeptical about the focus on posture and balance, but it seems to be a really good way to go — if you’re employing proper posture, then your weight will be properly distributed; if you’re well-balanced then you’ll be better centered, hopefully more self-aware and in control.

The attention to balance is really helpful for doing things like the yoga exercises — without the balance focus/guidance, I would certainly have been doing some of those exercises very incorrectly, but I could see to adjust my balance and the exercise felt very different. It’s good.

DeathNote (Desu Noto)

slated in consumed at 6:32 am

It turns out that some Japanese movies actually make sense.
Well, maybe it’s just the horror movies that are completely void of any sense whatsoever (the American versions of The Ring and that other one — about the phone calls that kill — are absurdly nonsensical, but their Japanese counterparts/originals trump them in nonsensicalness). Anyway, Death Note was great. (Not a horror film by any stretch. Rather interesting story.) ‘Hope the sequel(s) (L: The Last Name) match up; the third(?) film — L: Change the World seemed all the hype in Hong Kong.
Also going to look up the anime...

*update: the second movie’s solid. I laughed much more, cried more too. (Ah, Asian girls. Or girls in general. Totally cute, absurd, completely crazy.) Also, the anime is very good. Feels more like Bleach than Naruto (death gods and all..), but I never settled into Bleach. I’ve heard comparisons of it to Naruto, but.. well, the style and personalities are quite different.. I do see a bit of Sasuke there, though.. but character development is much more pronounced in Death Note; the character development and explanation of reasonings are interestingly more (interestingly) subtle in the anime than in the movies.
… Okay. the anime’s pretty emotional too.

Evernote beta

slated in consumed at 5:17 pm
Evernote

I’ve used Evernote for a while, but am just starting to play with the new incarnation of Evernote: 3.0 beta.

Evernote

I barely recognized Evernote. The general concept seemed the same (clip and keep), but this is a whole other animal. An elephant, in fact. Everything’s different: the logo, the website style, the mode of the software — now web-based. I’m not giving up my old (2.2) Evernote (desktop version) yet, but I am a bit excited about this new (3.0 beta) Evernote (web version). I clipped my first media this morning: tickets receipt and concert information for Matt Wertz. :)

Check out Evernote for yourself: http://evernote.com

Anonymous seed paper

slated in consumed at 4:39 pm

For Green Week at work, they gave us nicely printed cards on seed paper (paper with seeds embedded in it) that we’re encouraged to plant at home. But no indication as to what kind of plants will grow out of these seeds. My conscience says “Yay! Plant seeds! Green is good!” My sense says, “I don’t want random and strange weeds or plant-strangling/man-eating shrubs at my house!”

Boo iTunes, yay The Weepies

slated in consumed at 10:21 pm

New Weepies album Hideaway arrived! Looking forward to listening to it.

It’s weird getting CDs (even cool autographed album covers), because I’m just going to burn it to my computer so that I can actually listen to it and access it anytime/put it on my mp3 player, etc..

Get Hideaway

*update: This really is an adorable (puppy huggable cute) album.
btw, Joshua Radin, Mandy Moore, Schuyler Fisk are in the credits. So is “Theo, who was closely involved with every aspect of this recording, from start to finish.”

The Caps vs. Flyers game

slated in consumed at 7:20 pm

Went to my first hocky game ever..
I don’t think I’ve ever watched a serious chunk of hockey even on TV before.

My general expectations of impressions going in were all on base — it’s a pretty engaging, well-paced, high-contact game at which I cringe, gasp, and frequently want to scold the big men for being mean to each other.
