a few disjointed briefs, and spotlight

slated in moments at 8:59 pm

Apple’s new ‘spotlight’ search feature in the new OS (panther?) really is impressive and nice. better than Quicksilver. better than my bblean cmdex (command line-ish) plugin, which hasn’t been working properly for the past many months anyway.
i’m really hoping Windows Vista’s search feature is equal. or huge disappointedness from me. that said, a total harddrive search so accessible to anyone, so easily, is not always a good thing. not at all.

Apple sure does make it look good.

when am i going to get around to learning linux? :-/

last night’s thunderstorm wasn’t so scary as was warned… (though i’m sure it was worse elsewhere in the area)... but today’s pretty nice and cool, so to park-ing we shall go. more work to be done throughout day and eve.

sun day

slated in moments at 2:29 am

i arrived to my laptop the other day to find that someone had placed two hotplates (the kind we put under pots and hot dishes at the dinner table) underneath it. it’s amusing and sad… my computer really does get that hot. it’s a wonder it hasn’t fried! (knock on wood……..) of course, that could very well be what happened to the harddrive last year… aimahno.

just finished the fourth book (first time) of Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire. pretty good, actually.

i’m trying not to think about it much, and not researching it online, but i think i really want a Palm/Pocket PC. but it has to do everything and do it well, and i don’t think they quite do that yet. plust the whole $$$ factor. so i’m pretending i don’t desperately need one for a while yet.

beautiful weather today..been quite nice lately… would have liked to spend more time outdoors this afternoon but natural circumstances occurred inconveniently and i got some indoor rest and reading time instead.

apple monitors and graphics really are breathtakingly beautiful. i still don’t understand why PC can’t/hasn’t done it.

time for me to play catch up…

current scramble

slated in moments at 1:52 am

my australian/malaysian family (minus the ever-so-cool and missed Kimley) will arrive from japan in a couple hours and be around for a couple weeks…

big garden party here on sunday..family friends..

some key things got done this week… a few other key ones rolling properly and are due attention this week… and still other things will have to be refound and caught up to proper place somehow.

room being adjusted a bit rightfully… will have to be even more drastic in the next couple weeks.

sitting next to the airconditioning vent doesn’t seem to quelch the heat of this laptop. incredible the amount of heat BlueBytes generates. and still plays pretty properly.

and a certain someone’s home in… whoa—in a week! is that right? ! one week! :) i can count that on my hands. sweet.

more housecleaning to do in preparation for the first two mentioned items.
cherries in the kitchen: yum :)

brief on my now

slated in moments at 7:48 am

i put in my resignation at my 9-5+ job… it’s horrible timing for them, but it’s necessary for me…
other projects and personal matters take priority.
clearing house for sale? leaving country for a few months?
will do, and likely..

got to see some old coworkers from ~6-7 years ago… apparently i am the same as they remember me “a tiny little thing”. … it was very good to see them. some dear faces were missing from there, but maybe i can still find them at least to say hello.
a very old friend from kindergarten days said hi online yesterdayish, with a photo of herself…. so wonderful to see old friends from a different lifetime, grown up and having lived whole lifetimes without you…
i’ve been so very out of touch… and i am sorry for it, but not regretful… it’s not really something to have done differently… it’s just..largely the way things have been; the way i have been.
i think i can safely say that everyone who matters to me (who is still alive) is healthy and well.
and that makes me happy.
and it’s Amit’s birthday. that’s good too.
it’s way past my intended bedtime for a few reasons.. but it has been a good, simple day.. many more complicated ones to come shortly..
goodnight nowish.

Home from Michigan

slated in moments at 8:24 am

Got home a lil while ago. I hadn’t wanted to go, but Michigan turned out to be really quite good without big upsetnesses (besides despicable airport security)..
and i got to very briefly and unexpectedly see one good friend i haven’t seen in a few years and got to also unexpectedly spend a little time with another very dear friend i’ve also not seen in a good year or so… more of that in my own pages…
maybe more about the trip and its purpose itself a bit later… or perhaps elsewhere… meanwhile, there’s still work in the morning.
g’night.

hey….p.s. happy [Monday the] 13th

10 June 2005 Friday

stuff!

slated in moments at 1:39 am

computer moved downstairs because overheats even in winter and now it’s pretty summer and my room is warmest and so much heat is badness.

will be in michigan for the weekend… family trip.. leave 4am friday til late late on sunday… so will have to switch my medium to paper for the while..

was a pretty day out today… but seems to have turned over to rain… rain’s not hear yet, but pretty dark clouds over.
should pack soon.

neighbors selling their house. i’m going to miss them. really. not that i’ve been any good about keeping in touch with them.. but such is my record in general recent years. all pretty traceable..

watson sent me [a video of] a spider eating a mouse. that’s not nice at all. but he also sent the mouse eating the cracker. that was damn cute.

alberto’s a whiny morning person. *whine whine whine whine* in a cute way though.

gotta pack gotta pack.

house guests are back from beach.

Abra died today..
perhaps in sacrifice so that Bluey may live

for it seems that Bluey the car may indeed live…
doctor found that age/wear/tear had corrupted radiator tubes… there was one big shiny hole which would account for the 0 coolant..
of course oil was dirtyness… poor Bluey’s not had medical attention in some 6 months — though at the time it was a very thorough examination.
also, doctor found a nail clean through Bluey’s left hind paw. that’s been patched now.. but goodness knows how long Bluey was bravely limping along the highway, 50 miles roundtrip to workplace at least four days a week.
well, operation will be performed on radiator tubes and such, and then i will pay fee and take Bluey home for resting.

and i survived the dentist too.
